To maintain an active and recognized student organization, it is essential that groups:
A. Maintain positions of President, Vice President, and Treasurer.
B. Maintain a faculty advisor.
C. Maintain at least 10 members of the organization.
D. Participate in the annual School of Dentistry (SOD) Club Fair.
E. Engage in at least 2 events/activities per semester, excluding Club Fair.
F. Adhere to all SOD and University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) policies governing student groups.
Groups unable to meet each of the standards above will be placed on a probationary status for the upcoming semester. During the probationary semester, the group President will meet with the OSA Director of Student Affairs, and other SOD staff and Faculty Advisor as appropriate, to develop and implement a plan to satisfy requirements to be an active SOD student group. The Presient may also be asked to provide periodic progress updates to the Director of Student Affairs and will have opportunities to seek additional guidance and support as needed during the probationary period.
Groups on probation may be restricted from hosting events or activities, depending on the circumstances of their probation.
Student groups that are inactive did not meet the standards of an active group within two (2) semesters. These groups may be disbanded under the following circumstances that existed for two semesters:
A. Group was unable to fulfill critical executive positions, such as President, Vice President, and Treasurer.
B. Group was unable to secure a faculty advisor.
C. Group was unable to engage at least 10 members.
D. Group was unable to host at least 2 events/activities per semester.
E. Group did not complete the annual organization renewal process.*
F. Group failed to adhere to School and University policies surrounding student groups.**
Inactive groups have not met the standards for an active group for two semesters. Inactive groups are not recognized by the SOD and cannot access the benefits associated with registered student groups.
If active status is not reestablished after one probationary semester, the group will be de-registered and no longer recognized by the School or University. The process of disbanding student organizations that do not adhere to School and University policies may be altered based on the circumstance.
*Groups that do not re-register for the academic year will be an inactive group automatically and considered disbanded. A probationary period does not exist for groups that do not re-register for the academic year.
** Groups in violation of SOD and University policies surrounding student groups may be immediately de-registered, without a probationary semester, based on the violation. Referral to the SOD Judicial Board may occur when necessary.
