DREAM ~ Disability Justice

Disability Rights, Education, Activism, & Mentoring

DREAM endeavors to create an inclusive and supportive community and to promote disability justice at the University of Maryland School of Social Work and in the community at large.

Diversity

We recognize the diversity of disability, and the cultural and system barriers faced by people with disabilities.

Engagement

We engage people with disabilities and their allies to promote greater awareness and inclusion on campus.

Inclusion

We work to break down structural barriers and advance the inclusion of persons with disabilities within the School of Social Work, the social work profession, and our communities.

SSW Curriculum Advocacy

How many of your classes discuss disability justice (DJ)?

Based on our experience, not many - if any at all!
DJ is often left out of the classroom experience despite the fact that disabilities are intersectional and cross-cultural. DREAM is working to change that to make sure that SSW students are getting education and experience to work with neurodiverse and physically diverse populations and feel confident their ability to be strong DJ advocates in their communities!
