Overview:
Civic Engagement 101 is an interprofessional, co-curricular learning experience designed to introduce UMB students to the core principles, practices, and responsibilities of civic engagement. The session emphasizes civic involvement at local, state, and federal levels, as well as within professional and graduate education environments.
Through interactive learning and discussion, students will explore:
• The foundations of civic identity,
• Competencies for ethical and respectful community engagement,
• The intersection of their academic and professional work with public good, health equity, and participatory democracy.
Additionally, the session will include a focus group component to gather student input on how UMB can better support and promote civic engagement. Students will also be introduced to non-partisan civic engagement opportunities in the Baltimore City area.
