At UMB, community isn’t just something we talk about — it’s something we build together.

As we wrap up another Staff Senate election cycle, we’re grateful to everyone who stepped up to serve — and to all of you who took the time to vote. In this issue, we’re proud to announce your 2025–2026 UMB Staff Senate members, and especially to welcome the new Senators who will be joining us next term.

This month’s newsletter also spotlights the many resources and learning opportunities available to staff across campus — including a new initiative we’re proud to co-sponsor with UMB Employee Learning and Development: a fresh look at Percipio, UMB’s powerful (and often underestimated) learning platform. With a curated summer book club and live demo sessions launching soon, it’s a great time to explore how Percipio can support your personal and professional growth.

We know this is a time of uncertainty for many. But we also know that connection, communication, and continued growth are more important than ever. Your voice matters — and we’re here to help amplify it.

UMB Staff Senator Spotlight

\"Spotlight

What’s something you’ve accomplished on the Staff Senate during your time as a Senator?
I enjoyed working on the Staff Senate communications committee and was glad to help with a refresh of the Staff Senate website.

What’s a fun vacation that you’ve taken or would like to take?
A few years ago, my husband Jim and I camped in Utah's five national parks: Zion, Bryce, Arches, Canyonlands, and Capitol Reef. It was incredible to see such natural beauty. I came away with a deeper sense of the smallness and brevity of my life in the scheme of things--a helpful perspective!

What’s your most prized possession and why?
Many of the plants in my garden are transplants from the gardens of my favorite people--columbine from my friend Elizabeth, Solomon's seal from my friend Heather, and Lenten roses from my former boss Judson. I love that they are a living reminder of how we are all connected to one another and to the earth that sustains us.

What’s the theme song to your life?
"Vivir mi Vida" by Marc Anthony stirs my soul and gets me dancing.

See You Soon!

Our next meeting is Thursday, June 5th from noon to 2 p.m.
All UMB staff members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
