Make Your Voice Count – Staff Senate Elections Are Here!

UMB thrives when its staff members are engaged, informed, and empowered. As we gear up for the 2025 Staff Senate elections, this is your opportunity to step up and ensure that staff voices are heard on the workplace issues that matter most.

The Staff Senate serves as a bridge between employees and university leadership, providing staff with a platform to share concerns, relay feedback, and advocate for workplace improvements.

Senators help amplify staff perspectives, collaborate with senior leadership, and contribute to important committees and working groups across UMB. If you’ve ever wanted to help strengthen communication between staff and leadership—this is your chance!

To learn more about what it means to serve on the Senate and how to run in this year’s election, join us at one of our upcoming virtual info sessions. These sessions will provide an overview of the nomination and election process and offer insight into the Senate’s role on campus.

UMB Staff Senator Spotlight

Spotlight shining on employee Sabrina Coppage, Research Administrator, SOM/Department of Pediatrics, Research Administration

What’s something you’ve accomplished on the Staff Senate during your time as a Senator?
As a first-time staff senator, one memorable accomplishment that stands out is being a part of the community engagement committee. During this year’s term I got to participate in the annual UMB Thanksgiving drive and the Polar Express. The experience was rewarding knowing I will be a part of the commitment UMB has with the community it serves, while blessing families during the holiday season.

What’s a fun vacation that you’ve taken or would like to take?
The best vacation on the books for me was a girl’s trip to Cancun Mexico, which I got to relax and shut my brain off. This year I will be taking my first cruise from Miami on a 7 Day Western Caribbean adventure.

What’s your most prized possession and why?
Family isn’t just an important thing; It’s everything. And my family is the most prized possession at this stage of my life. I’m blessed to have a strong support system that nurtures me to be the best version of myself in whatever I do.

What’s the theme song to your life?
If I had to pick only one song it would be “Everybody Loves the Sunshine” by Roy Ayers. This song brings an energy that makes you want to smile and enjoy the relaxing mood of the instruments. It also makes me think and reflect knowing “Every day is new opportunity to shine."

See You Soon!

Our next meeting is Thursday, April 3rd from noon to 2 p.m.
All UMB staff members are welcome and encouraged to attend.
